Cynthia Rowley Dress Simplicity 2497

I fell in love with this gorgeous dress. I thought I was done with ruffles, but I guess not! Don't you just love the fantastic neckline?
Anyway, I did not feel like fabric shopping and did not have anything suitable in my stash for making this dress. However, I have this skirt that I fished out of my refashion pile.

Why how wrinkly :)
This skirt was worn quite a bit during my college days when wearing long black skirts during the day was just the norm. Really, it was not as though I stuck out. After college, I kept the skirt around to use during Halloween as part of my witchy costume.

Anyway, I did not refashion the skirt, per say, but I used up most of the fabric to make this dress. There was actually very little waste. However, there was not enough fabric for the entire dress, so I used a contrasting fabric for the waist and the ruffled neckline.

I feel very comfortable in this dress, and I think I'll be wearing it this Christmas season. I'm also interested to see if I can make this one out of knit fabric, but all in one colour. I think it will be very cute.
Close up of the neckline. (Apparently a close up of my makeup-less face too)
Promise to link up to the formal review when I'm done.

edit: Patternreview.com review is here.

I saw this pattern today and fell in love. Repurposing? Look at you. Brilliant. Love the contrast too, I can't wait to try on my own!

I love that you used two fabrics for this dress- I've seen several versions in solids, and I like your version better. And I love that you reused an old skirt to make this with. Wonderful idea- I need to start looking at things with your eye for repurposing.

Ilove that you used a corrdinating fabric for the ruffle and waist. This dress is exactly the type of flattering style tht they reccommned on "What Not to Where" for the shorter figure to highlight the waist. You look terrific in it! Sweet Caroline
