Like that time I made my girls dresses out of pillow cases?
Or that time I made them dresses for Canada Day?
Or the different shirred top that I made last summer? I still wear that top, by the way.
Well, our family sneaked away for a little vacation in a really fun resort town called Blue Mountain somewhere near Toronto. It was touristy and family friendly, and yet we were able to escape into trails for daily hikes. In other words, it was just what we needed.
I really wanted to make a new summer vacation dress, but with family visiting, I did not really have a whole lot of 'me' time. I decided to make a shirred dress for myself. All in, it took me about slightly less than an hour.
It is just a tube measured slightly larger than my hip for ease and comfort, and then I shirred rows of elastic about 1/2" apart until I got the right look. It is really quite a satisfying project.
Here's a picture of me in my summer dress, pretending to enjoy candied apple.
Yes, I was pretending. Man, that stuff's too sweet for me.
This picture of me with the candied apple was taken after an hour long hike down the slopes, after taking a gondola ride to the top of the hills. In case that wasn't clear enough, I was indeed wearing a dress. For a hike. Strangely enough, I had enough forethought to wear sneakers. If I had been wearing sandals, I would have thrown a fit at Mr. Su for saying, "Hey, let's see where this Happy Valley Trail leads!"
I've come to the conclusion that as "sexy" as this dress made me feel, I will be adding spaghetti straps to any future tube-top shirred dresses. This is because the sight of me constantly tugging the dress into place is probably decidedly UN-sexy.
The next day, when Mr. Su and I actually took off for some real hiking up the mountain, I actually dressed much more appropriately. See proof below:

P.S. : I'm really happy to be back after such a long bloggy break!

You look great!:)
You look adorable as always...but I was just thinking "Yes, but how does it stay UP?"
Dresses for hikes are not comfortable but they make for nice photos. Haha. I feel you about the tugging the dress constantly problem. :)
Hahahaha......yes, I can see how that might have been an awkward get-up for hiking. ;-) But for, say, a beach cover-up? ADORABLE, AND perfect. You hever have to lift it over your head!
