Sometimes, the cold winter months of January and February does strange things to my brains. Maybe it is because I'm not a native of this over-changing North American climate.
For instance, against my intuition, I decided to be a little "different" and "adventurous" when choosing the fabric for the guest room's curtains.
Conversations in Su's head:
Stop telling me that orange is not my color, voice in my head. I'm dressing the window. Not myself.
It's gonna look weird with the green...
Bah, it's time to step out of my comfort zone, that's what I say.
But it so shiny. This is so not you! Listen to me!
Not listening... roma-ah-ah-ah, gaga-oh-la-la...not listening....
Here are the curtains. Judge for yourselves.
In the sunlight:
Without the sunshine:
Since readers of this humble blog are always so polite, and won't say anything unless they have something nice to say, I've decided to go the Fug Ladies way and set up a poll for you:
What do you really think of the curtains?
Thanks,
Su

LOVE the curtains :)
I think I like them :) What color is the wall they are on? Its hard to tell in the pictures! I think you might need to throw some other orange/green accents in the room to tie the curtains in, but I'm kinda digging them! That green fabric is awesome!
The walls are a off-white tone, with a slight tinge of yellow.
At the moment, there's a light beige-y colored bed frame, with mismatched side tables that I plan to paint to match the bed frame. The bedding on the bed is white... all white.
I think you are right, if I keep the curtains, I will have find a way to tie it in with the rest of the room.
Speaking as someone who also gets a severe case of the winter blahs in January, I must say you're being way too hard on yourself. The curtains are awesome! I love the colors ad the multiple fabrics. Way to go!
I think your curtains are amazing! They are unexpected, but that makes them all the more funky (and the formality of the fabric keeps it sophisticated). I can totally picture an entire room built off that (it's Moroccan themed in my head).
But if you want a really quick way to pull it together with the rest of the room, make some pillows (or shams) for the bed in the green and an accent pillow in the orange, maybe line some baskets in one of the colors....and one of your tissue box covers for the nightstand!
(In our climate, One can't help but get the winter blahs!)
Oh, and if you line the curtains they won't fade from the sunlight! I made the mistake of not lining the first set I made and they faded horribly and much faster than expected.
Love 'em. And as a SE Asian myself, I totally feel what you feel. And those colours and textures are perfect to bring the vibrant warmth of summer to the room, but yeah, the feeling must be carried throughout the rest of the room.
Don't change it. It's lovely. :)
Love Them! (and the new blog header!) If there is any of the green fabric left over, make matching pillows for the bed.
I really like orange, for clothing and decor. It's so cheery and invigorataing.
I like the fabrics individually, I think it's the proportions with the black line between them that's throwing me off. Though as others said, the room context is key and could really make it work.
@kate - thanks for the ideas. I googled "Moroccan themed bedrooms" rightaway. Hehe.
Oh, and I wished I lined the curtain too. The only saving grace is that there is a blackout blind hidden behind the curtain right now, so I'm keeping it pulled down to preserve the curtain (and the other things in the bedroom)
@Callipygian - oooh, yeah, I didn't notice that black line. It's the seam line, which would not have been obvious if I had lined the curtain. Lesson learned!
Hey, way to go on taking a chance and being adventurous! Yeah, I'd say if you've got some fabric leftover, make up some pillows to tie it in with the room, then leave it for a while to see if it grows on you. It's kind of hard to tell without the context of the room (I'm trying to picture the bed and sidetables) but I think this could totally work.
Love it. :-)
I definitely love them!
