Tutorial: Line and Cover that Ugly Plastic Basket

OK, ok, "ugly" is a strong word. Maybe "unsightly" would be better.

A while ago, I found three of these dollar store baskets that fit nicely into a strange shelf just above my microwave. I had been thinking of lining them ever since.

Want to know how I did it? You.... don't?
Sigh.... :)
Heh, I don't know why I seem to want to write tutorials this week.
So here it goes anyway....

Take your measurements:

That's measurements in inches:

(Oh, it looks like a tea towel, but it's not because a tea towel would not be big enough)

Make sure the basket is really centered, otherwise *you will regret it*
(dum dum DUM)
Uh... I mean, otherwise you'll end up with an uneven hem:

Sew all four corners:

Well, you can pin and sew the hem neatly, but I was happy just to tuck the hem under.

There you go:

Woo hoo.... it hides my junk:

And anything that helps disguise my mess, is alright with me.

Hello? Genius! I was just actually wondering how to store/organize some of my craft supplies and this would definitely come handy.

And if you use Christmas-y fabric, they'd be great for some holiday treats!

@Bored&Crafty - OHO! You've got something there. I can cover any Halloween and Spring baskets with Christmas-y fabrics - multi-tasking baskets! Great idea.

These are so cute! I have some old grocery store handle baskets (or whatever you call those things you get instead of the shopping carts)that I'm going to cover like this. Thanks for the great idea and instructions.

What a great idea! You could use this to cover any kind of square or rect. box, basket, tote. Think of it...sturdy shoe boxes (either cardboard ones or the plastic shoe bins), milk crates or storage cubes, etc. You can even use different sized boxes in coordinating fabrics to make an interesting grouping for unique storage needs. Fabrics can be seasonal/holiday or match to your home decor. Liners can be embellished w/ ribbons, bows, beads, buttons, applique's,iron-on's, tranfers or personalized w/ names or pictures to give each fam. member their own bin. Can even use a bigger basket/bin throw in a pillow and make it a pet bed. Endless possibilities on this one...I love it!!! Now, if only I could sew! :(
