No way I'd be selling this skirt. So, I guess I'll have to keep it for spring and wear it myself :). I don't care if it's not perfect. I still think it's beautiful.
My friend asked me why wouldn't I give it away. I had thought about this too, but no way! I guess, if I'm giving away something, it has to be good enough that I'd be able to sell it too.
Anyway, I had cut the pieces for this skirt about two weeks ago. The awesome Claudia, whom I met through wardrobe refashion was at my place for a sewing session at that time. She gave me the idea for having the lining show on the gathered skirt:
What do you think of the lining peeking through like that? Yay or nay?
Oh.... and are you like me? Things you make for others must be perfect, but you are able to live with less than perfect pieces for yourself, because you made it?

I definitely can live with "less than perfect" when it's for me...because I spent all that time on it, no WAY i'm letting it go to waste!
I love the peek-a-boo look. If I was making it, I'd probably make the difference a little less...lengthen the outer skirt a bit, maybe an inch or two?
Then again, I don't have a single skirt that hits above the knee, so I'm kind of a "prude" in my fashion sense. LOL
The skirt IS beautiful!
That's beautiful. If you didn't know already, I don't think you'd realize that it's the lining at the bottom; it just looks like the design of the skirt. I love it!
I am a perfectionist when it comes to things I make for others, too. If I'm going to wear it myself, though...I have been known to wear skirts boasting 10 ore more safety pins just so I wouldn't have to sew a hole or fix a mistake ;-).
I think that the lining peeking out is perfect. Definitely keep it!
I'm also on the Yay side. It gives the skirt interest.
I love the lining peeking out. Over the years I've had a few dresses and skirts that were just barely too short, and I always wanted to add an underskirt like that, but couldn't decide what kind of fabric to use/color and ended up giving them away.
And YES- I feel embarrassed enough about my homemade gifts without GLARING mistakes to boot :)
I like it the way it is. I think if you shorten the lining too much you might risk the whole thing being a little too short for comfort...but, that's just me. :)
And, I must say that it's awesome that you met a fellow WR member and are now friends in real life! Cool!
Lining showing gives it much more interest, so keep it as is. Definitely looks wearable. And yes, if it is less than perfect I can wear it, but if it is for someone else I will obsess.
YAY!!
I think the lining showing is nice. It gives it more dimension. On the perfect thing . . . yes, if I am giving it or selling it I want it to be perfect, but if it is for me, it doesn't need to be.
Big resounding YAY from here. :)
would definitely use another lining, but otherwise the idea is cute
