So this is the pattern I chose. I wanted to make it before my small 5 year old outgrows the size 4 pattern.
The pattern is a 1975 McCall's 4615 Child's Dress or Top and Pants. The back is zippered, dress or top has bib and tie belt. The sleeves has elastics in wrist casings and has gathered cap.
I used a mystery fabric my daughter picked out of the remnant bin for a $1. She fell in love with it, and I promised to make her a new fall dress with it. I think it may be a rayon-poly blend? Heh, I still have trouble telling fabric types apart.
The dress came out pretty much as the drawing on the front of the envelope, except, typical of the 70s, the models are drawn with super-duper loooonnng legs. *snickers*
I usually have trouble following the instructions on vintage patterns. They tend to skip quite a few details. I had no problem with this one
I think that the finished neck hole is actually quite small. It fit my daughter fine, but I think it would have been more comfortable if it was a little bigger.
I did not have enough fabric to make the ties, so I substituted with a red ribbon instead.
I also found the dress to be a little short for my daughter, so instead of hemming the bottom, I decided to roll the hem using my serger. It cut the work by a lot, since I did not have to iron and hem. And I think it looks great!
I really like this dress, and I wish there are more contemporary patterns like these.

The dress is adorable.
It turned out so so cute!!
Aww that's a cute dress! You did a great job. :)I wish I have little girls to sew for.
How cute! I have so many kids patterns (I tell people I collect them so it isn't totally weird) but being only 21, I won't have any for a long while yet! I love the 70's ones, this one included. If I were her I'd wear it every day :D
I love vintage patterns too! And you're right, those 'models' on the cover of the packet have such long legs! Your dress is so cute!
Bored and Crafty - Thank you! You make such lovely dresses for yourself, though :)
Alyssa - I have a lot of patterns myself, even those that are way to small or big, so I totally understand the obsession!
Melissa - Don't they have the longest legs? The 70s women patterns have drawings with even more of an exaggerated bodies!
Your daughter is just TOO CUTE.
