Balanced Day Lunch Bag Dilemma

My oldest daughter is going into Grade One tomorrow. I must confess that because of that, I have been a little anxious, and dare I say it, hit by a wave of melancholy.

Last week, I had visitors to distract me. But today, faced with the fact that my big girl is, well, a Big Girl, let's just say that I wish I can freeze time a little. I want to hold on a little longer to this wonderful age of 5, almost 6. I'm sure most of you can relate, one way or another.

One way I channeled this nervous energy was to worry about the Balanced Day.
Ever heard of the Balanced Day?
Instead of 2 short breaks and one long lunch break, my daughter's school implements the Balanced Day. This means that students will get 2 longer breaks.
Not a big deal, really. This just means that I have to pack 2 snacks.

So, give me something to worry about, so that I don't have to fret about my daughter going into a full day of school, OK?

How am I going to fit 2 snacks into a small lunch bag?
Oh no! How will she know which is for snack one and which is for snack two?
Have you seen the size of my daughter? How is she going to carry two lumpy lunch bags???!?

Hah.... I can worry like the best of them!

Silly, I know.
Su, if that's what you have to worry about, you have a great life! Oh no, she's now talking to herself, via her blog, nonetheless!

So, this is the lunch bag I made to ease some of that worry.

It's two lunch bags stuck together! Ingenious (haha, right....)
The side with one flower, for Snack One:

Two flowers for Snack Two:

The red fabric is a wonderfully thick fabric from a table cloth, and the pink cat fabric is some leftover from a previous project. The strap is recovered from a belt, and the compartments are lined with a vinyl tablecloth I got from my grocery store for 99cents.

All set, right?Right?

OMG, Su, the bag is AWESOME! It's so cute. I love the "1 flower for snack 1, and 2 for snack 2". Love it!

I went through the same anxiety and melancholy when Lam started Grade 1 last year. I went through it again a couple of days later, when Mini started Nursery. Oy!
It'll be better in a week or two when you get into the routine. Just think of it like a bandaid. Rip it off quick. The first day is usually the toughest. Hang in there, my friend. :) xo

Nenette - Thanks! The young one is just going to nursery twice a week for about 2 hours. So, I guess, lucky for me, I still have a baby to look after.

Laura - thank you!

Happy Together - coming from you, that's high praise.

Melanie - Thank you. You never know! I'm just hoping my child won't one day decide that hand made stuff is uncool.

Clever solution! I like that the number of flowers helps label the two sacks. I posted a link to your project on Craft Gossip Sewing:

I love the bag. What a wonderful idea. I never thought about making one. Oh well, the second child will be going to preschool soon enough.

Bored and Crafty - I'll get over it! I have to, right? :)

@Skinnymum I actually do not have a pattern for this bag because I made it up as I went along. So sorry! However, it is two lunchbags sewn together at the back. Does that make sense?
