Vintage Tablecloth Skirt = New Play Skirt

Takes about 5 minutes.
Unless you involve a 5 year old.

Then it takes about 20 minutes.
20 minutes of engaging conversation about measurement and sewing with my 5 year old is A-OK with me.
(She has seen me take pictures while I work, so she insists that I 'document' her work too)

Skirt from an old tablecloth (bedskirt will work too):
Measure your waist (and try to remember that number):
Use a ruler and disappearing ink pen to mark the length of the waist:
Cut carefully! Also trim off the excess material that is not part of the skirt.
Get mum to attach an elastic using a zig-zag stitch. Tell her to stretch the elastic to fit the length of the fabric as you sew:
Now, with the right sides together, use a straight seam to the sides together in order to form a seam. (Mums are not allowed to freak out at this point)
Wheeee!!
