Sticking it to the Man

I don't know if I ever mentioned this, but I'm originally from Malaysia. I learnt the "Queen's English" at school, and at home, while watching the tv shows like "A Team", "McGyver" and sneaking in episodes of "Dallas", I learnt about American English.
In Canada, I actually got to use a lot the the wonderful slangs and phrases, but the one that tickles me the most is "Sticking it to the Man". I don't know who said it, but it was in Winnipeg, at work, talking about the corporation.

You may wonder why I go into all this details about Sticking it to the Man. Well, it is because I came across this laundry powder recipe at Myrnie's blog. I had come across home made liquid laundry detergent before, but it seemed like such a lot of work. Well then, the powdered version seemed much simpler.

Still, why would I make home made laundry powder? I can see my friend Steph rolling her eyes at me already. Is it really that environmetally friendly? Does it really save me that much money? Yes, to the first question. Perhaps, to the second, but that's besides the point.
Do you know why I finally decided to make my own laundry powder? It is because I'm tired of paying top dollar for substandard products, especially when the home made stuff does just as good a job. In other words, I'm Sticking it to the Man! *giggles*
Ok, ok, I also get a kick 'making stuff'. It is a sickness, I tell you.

By the way, I can't find Fels-Naptha, so I use Ivory bar soap instead:
1 cup grated Ivory bar soap, to 1/2 cup washing soda and 1/2 cup borax.
1-2 tablespoons per wash works well for me!

How do you get the little links at the end of your posts in Reader? Do you use ShareThis...Feedburner...

And how do you set it up?

So glad it works for you! I've heard you can use just about any soap- Fels-Naptha is just a "plain" soap, nothing added. I can get it for about $2 a bar. I've also heard that Zote works. I'm working with a friend/soap maker to see if she can supply me with "plain" soap.

Let me know how it works out, "Sticking it to the man!"

I think my husband's still a little bit skeptical, Myrnie. He'll come around yet!

You learned the phrase "Sticking It To the Man" from Mr. Mayor.
