Pattern Review: New Look 6729 - Knit Top

I was at the fabric store the other day to pick up serger thread, and I was majorly distracted by sewing patterns sale. New Look for $2! Now, you know I should be sewing from my vintage stash. I love vintage! However, I was drawn, drawn, I tell you, to flip through the New Look catalog.

I came away with the pants pattern and this interesting top - New Look 6729. I like the criss-cross pattern on the front of the blouse. So interesting.
Oh yes, if you think that the knit fabric of the finished top is familiar, you are right! It is the blue version of the red and black knit that I made the dress and the tissue box cover with. What can I say? When I like something, I really like it!



Pattern Description:
Knit tops, with variation of criss-cross pattern in the front, faux wrap and either short or long sleeves.
Pattern Sizing:
Misses' size 6-12.
I made a cut size 6, view C (short sleeves, crossing in the front, no 'belt')

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, good pictures too.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
Very cute top, and definitely unique.
The front and the sleeves are one cut, so there is no extra step for attaching the sleeves. Saved me some time there. That part is great, although I suspect that I used more fabric because of this.
There was potentially a lot ironing, what with the turning and narrow hemming along the bottom, sleeves, neck, crossings.... However, I tried ironing this fabric rather unsuccessfully, so I very unprofessionally turned as I hemmed. I know, *hang head shamefully*, sloppy!
In my defense, you can't really tell unless you are looking for imperfections.
I did find the cut in the front a tad low, so if I make another one, I'll have to make some adjustments there.

Fabric Used:
Polyester knit with 2 way stretch.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made:
No

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I plan to sew it again, using plain knit. Although, it seems that I have a problem with I'm at the fabric store, I am attracted to flamboyant prints!

Conclusion:
Love it! A gratifying project.


Side note: I'm trying to use my camera tripod, but why is it that my pictures are even worse than before? It is as though the camera is having difficulty focusing on my top. It seems to be focusing on the couch instead. Sigh, technical difficulty. I will learn. If I get a better picture, I will tack it on later.
