This post is inspired by Aching Muscles and a gift given to me by my sister a few years back.
Over the weekend, I had my super-duper yoga teacher's training course. Usually, it's not very physical. However, this weekend was a little different. On Sunday, we did 2 hours of power yoga. The day before, it was about an hour, plus some inversion work. You know, head stands, handstands, shoulder stands. Not that I can do any of those well, mind you.
All that, after staying away from yoga for about two weeks because of my cold = Major Muscle Aches!
So, after my class on Sunday, my lovely husband (who had already taken care of the kids the whole weekend) took care of them a little more. That gave me the opportunity to to soak in a blissful, warm bath of scented Epsom Salt.
Wouldn't you know it? Epsom salt!
Epsom salt is a chemical compound containing magnesium and sulfate. It is widely believed that soaking in epsom salt helps to relieve muscle aches. Does it really work? Well, there's debate. I must report a slight relieve to my strained muscle. Was it because of the bath, and the epsom salt was just acting like a placebo? Hard to tell.
Well, who cares? I got to lie in a warm bath! Uninterrupted! Bliss! :)
Making your own scented epsom salt is easy.
For every two cups of epsom salt, stir in 2-5 drops of essential oil.
Kids can make epsom salt care packages for adults too. It's a different, but appreciated gift from a child.
It's fun for the kids - almost like a little science experiment.
Along with scent, you can add a little food coloring (a few drops will do) to the epsom salt, and get the kiddies to do the mixing.
There are a lot of bath salt recipes out there, but I find that this is the easiest.Put the salts into a little bag, and secure with a ribbon:
Or put the salts into a jar (grin and bear the mess!):
Decorate:
Yay!

What a great idea and so rewarding for kids, I love it! I'll have to link to this in my next Kid's Craft Roundup, thanks so much for the great idea.
I'm so glad you like it, Rachel. My kids really enjoy "playing with salt", as they call it. I just like the fact that they are kept busy!
I really really love this idea!!! Simply WONDERFUL and FUN!!!!
Thank you so much for posting all the details... I can't wait to give this one a try. :):)
My daycare kids made this kind of stuff for their parents for Christmad gifts. Ours was just a little different we added essential oil from our local health food store but I was told light virgin oil would of worked just as good too. Just a little different idea to add to your wonderful one. Thank you and keep up the wonderful ideas.
I think this is cool. I am doing this for my demonstation speech, and I didn't know how to make it!! But now i can, but I'm still a little comfused... Do you have to put the beads in a bowl and warm the beads in the stove? with essential oil? I was wondering because there are pictures of how to mkae it but there ia always a stove? HELP!! I have untill next week of 5/21/09
You don't have to heat it at all.
Just mix the epsom salt and the essential oil in a bowl.
We were just doing it on the stove because it was the best spot for us :)
