A Crafting and Sewing Pause

Well, don't worry, I'm not giving up on my crafty stuff.
I just felt like talking about something different today.

One of the things that I really love to do is to read. However, let me just tell you straight up, that I'm not a 'smart' reader. You rarely find me reading the classics. Sorry to disappoint; I've got to be who I am.
Also, don't worry, I'm not going to start reviewing books. I'm insecure enough about my writing, that it took me 2 years to start this blog. The most I can tell you about a book is usually, "Good", "OK", "Bad", "I liked it" and "Not the Best".

I read mostly fiction - mystery, romance, bestsellers and anything Not Serious. Sometimes, I may surprise myself by reading a biography, something historical or a self-help book.

Nenette from Lifecandy challenged her readers to read 9 books that have been made to movies. We have until the end of the year!

These are the books I've chosen:

Jack's Return Home - Ted Lewis (Get Carter )
Princess Bride, The - William Goldman
Chocolat - Joanne Harris
Battlefield Earth - L. Ron Hubbard
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café - Fannie Flagg (Fried Green Tomatoes)
Romancing the Stone - Diane Thomas
Thank You for Smoking - Christopher Buckley
Picture of Dorian Gray, The - Oscar Wilde
Strip Tease - Carl Hiaasen

I must admit I never would have thought to read ANY of these books, so this challenge is perfect for me. However, I do give myself the permission to toss out the book and pick another, if:
1) It is too SAD and serious for me - I read to escape, but not into a world too dreary for me.
2) If I don't look forward to picking up the book - life is too short to subject myself to something like that.

So far, I've read Chocolat and The Princess Bride. Both books were borrowed from my local library - I love the library. (In between these two books I've also read Lee Child's "Nothing To Lose", Suzanne Brockmann's "Into the Fire" and a few other less memorable ones)

Chocolat - "OK", I actually preferred the movie, but it may be because of Johnny Depp's deliciousness.
The Princess Bride- "Good", I loved it! Goldman's "abridgment" of S. Morgenstern's work is funny, funny, funny. I've got to watch the movie again to see if it matches up to the book.

Well, thanks for putting up with my pause. I'll be back with more crafty stuff!

Yes, good luck! And great challenge! I'm not one to read a book if I've seen the movie already, but I've always wanted to read Princess Bride (even after hundreds of times watching the movie). Too bad Chocolat didn't measure up. I loved that movie, too! I'm reading The Lollipop Shoes right now, which is basically a sequel.
I like your list. Great picks!

Thanks, Myrnie, Kate. I think I'll be able to do it. I do enjoy reading.... as long as my brains are not too taxed, I'll be OK :)
