Pattern Review: Simplicity 4076

When it comes to sewing, I'm pretty impatient. I want to get it done now. And quick!
And have I also mentioned that I'm a little lazy?
What's this about sewing with muslin first to test out a pattern? BAH! :) Making markings and notches? PFFT!
My mum (she's a great sewer) would be Shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

Pattern: Simplicity 4076 view A (pictured in green) and B (that's the one in brown)

I chose to make view A and B, because according to experts like the Petite Fashionista, wrap tops are particularly flattering to shorties like me.

I started the first attempt of this pattern with a cheap knit that I bought on sale. I tried to make alterations to the pattern. Because of my boyish figure (hah! yes, euphemism for flat-chested, thick-waisted), any one size wouldn't have fit me properly. I went with a size 10 miss around the bust and shoulder area, and a size 14 miss at around the waist. Halfway through the pattern, I made a quick fitting. You can probably tell that it was a little loose. So, at this point, I decided to take it in a little. Making adjustments as I go along...

This is the final result. So what if it's cheap fabric, right? It was only cheap because it was on sale. I think it made for a pretty sweet top and it's probably going to be my favourite top for colder seasons.

While this pattern is still fresh in my mind, I decided to make another top with whatever scrap knit I have lying around. After making the first top, I thought that a size 8 would probably work on me. I did not have enough black knit to make the long sleeve version, so short sleeve it was. I modded the top, adding a pink knit to the front of the top, for interest. Just like cooking, I can't seem to leave a recipe alone! Always tweaking

I'm pretty happy with this top too, but it'll stay in my closet until spring.
What a great pattern. Even someone like me can sew it. I can see why there are rave reviews all over the web! I can't wait to try out the other designs when I need more casual tops.

Edit: After posting I realized that I should really have more information for you, if I were really to call this a pattern review

So, a little bit more information:

My measurements would have fit size 10, but it turns out size 8 was more appropriate for me.

The pattern is very forgiving - a great beginner's pattern. Instructions are very clear; I had no "say what?" moments.

I am petite - this top may be short on taller women. If you have a long upper body, you may want to lengthen this top a few inches

I would never have thought of using a vertical stripe for this top, but I love the look! Must find lengthwise stripe knit fabric now.

Lulu - I know! The vertical stripes totally works. I must say that this blouse is one of my most worn handmade item!
