Really!
Well, OK, it was so that I can make a dress form. I checked out local fabric store and they were selling dress forms for $400. Hah! As if I would spend that kind of dough on a dress form. I know, I know, there are cheaper dress forms out there. But where's the cool factor? Where's the fun in just going out there to buy something?
Not when I can make my own - shaped just like me! Afterall, even a commercial dress forms will fail to be an exact replica of me.
I did a lot of googling, watched a lot of youtube videos and read tons of tutorials. In the end, I found the best tutorial to be the one on the etsylab blog.
Look at that:

So very cool!
I wore an old t-shirt underneath. It was very big and baggy, so I cut off some excess material. This is to prevent bunching up underneath the duct tape.
We used a little over one 60yd roll of duct tape to achieve this:

It was lots of fun. Norman was very much the perfectionist; he followed the etsylabs instructions very carefully.
I felt like I could finally relate to all those latex corset wearers; must be how they feel... haha.
After cutting it off me, the dress form looked like this:

What goes into the dress form? Polyester fiberfill - one or two bags. I only bought one bag, so I added crushed newspaper. That worked too.

You can use a mike stand or hang your dress form on a hanger.
I haven't quite decided what to do yet. Most likely, I'll leave it like this until I need to make a dress.

Wow! That's amazing! I've always thought that I might do more sewing for myself, but I refuse to buy a new dress form to find out. This would be a great way to get a "beginner" form and find out if I'll actually sew for myself.
Thanks, Amy Jo. It really does helps with the sewing.
mount your dress form on an old Christmas tree pole/stand!
